Quantity or Quality

As new media continues to grow and provide opportunities for people to participate in world-wide conversations, quality can oftentimes be overshadowed by quantity and need for immediacy. Today, information is passed faster than ever through the various channels of social media. The first report of US Airway’s flight 1549 crashing in the Hudson was first done by tweet. As this continues to happen – and slowly becomes the norm – what will our society loose, if anything, and what will we gain?

Social Media Club of Salt Lake City (SMC of SLC) supports the central focus of the worldwide organization, which is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

The organization’s four focus areas are:

  • Expand media literacy
  • Share lessons learned among practitioners
  • Encourage adoption of industry standards
  • Promote ethical practices through discussion and actions

Social Media Minute on Utah Pulse

The Social Media Club of Salt Lake City is pleased to partner with a local new media publication – in other words, not a traditional newspaper – the Utah Pulse.

Members of the SMC of SLC leadership team and other members will contribute to Utah Pulse on a weekly basis in the Social Media Minute.

The Social Media Minute is published each Friday and includes tips and tools on how to use new media.
