Recap of 2nd Meeting

February 20, 2009 | by Hilarye Fuller

What a seriously great event we had last night! I believe the final count was around 120 peeps and tweeps! And we made it to the #1 trending topic on Twitter Search! Neutron Interactive were amazing hosts and fed us full of cookies, mini brownies, cheese skewers, and chicken bruschetta. Plus a stocked “bar” of coke, diet coke and bottled water. They pushed their desks out of the way and set up seats. I was impressed by their offices the moment I walked in. I love the decorations and the creative vibe one gets just from being there!

For the first half hour we just ate and talked. Then Jyl and Pete started us out by giving away some door prizes. Xmission donated three grab bag that included shirts and gift certificates for three months of free internet, Park City Mountain Resort and Canyon Ski Resort donated ski passes, eBay had gift certificates, Jesse Stay and Rachael Herrscher (also panel members) gave away copies of their books, and The Melting Pot generously donated two $50 gift certificates to their delicious restaurant!

After a few prizes were given away, Malcolm took over and introduced us to the panelists who included: Jesse Stay known affectionately as the “social geek”, Sara Brueck Nichols director of public relations for Operation Kids, Anthony Power founder of recipe 31, Rachael Herrscher founder of TodaysMama, and surprise panelist Frank Eliason also known as @comcastcares. The panel was fantastic. After being introduced each panelist was given three or four minutes to discuss their thoughts in their various expertise, after that the floor was opened for questions and discussion.

Thanks to those who participated via web from home either by twitter or ustream (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/smcslc). We should have given you the opportunity to ask questions! But we are glad for those who were there in spirit! Triple thanks go to Drew Tyler (@Knite20) for being our official videographer and setting up the streaming. Also another round of thanks is owed to Cary Snowden (@carysnowden) who was our photographer- look for those photos soon to be added to ourFlickr group page. And finally Neutron Interactive- thanks for setting the hosting bar high!

Hooray SMCSLC for becoming a huge success in only its second month. It’s really thanks to you guys who are so willing to come, bring your expertise, and your friendship. We love you all and look forward to an even better event (if possible) next month!
