May 20, 2009 | by Pete Codella, APR

Utah’s Video, Audio and Social Media Training Event

At the Smart Media 2009 boot camp attendees get two full days of hands-on training in social media, online audio and video production. They’ll learn how to become a power user of digital media, including Facebook, Twitter, blogs and YouTube. Equipment will be provided and staff will offer support so attendees can practice what they learn on-site.

Smart Media 2009 will be held June 18-19, 2009 at Noah’s in Lindon, Utah. Attendees will learn the media tools and skills they need to leverage social marketing and digital media business promotion.

Produced by Podcast Tuneup and Janet Meiners Thaeler (@newspapergrl) the workshop will provide attendees with a strategic overview on why social media is relevant, how it works, and why it works.

Breakout sessions will explore different social media tools and how to use them, including:

  • Promoting your product or service with video and posting on online video sites
  • Leveraging social media communities (such as Facebook and Twitter)
  • Creating and posting audio files on iTunes

Two of the Social Media Club of Salt Lake City founders, Pete Codella, APR and Jyl Johnson-Pattee, are among the conference presenters. Codella and Pattee will provide workshops on How to Build an Audience and Effectively Run a Social Media Campaign and will guide participants through the actual development of a specific social media campaign for an SMC of SLC project.

Open lab times are scheduled on both days where participants will have the opportunity to apply what they learn. Industry experts will be on-hand throughout the day to answer questions and provide technical support.

This workshop promises attendees experience with:

  • An overview of local and national companies who have successfully used new media in their marketing
  • Social media case studies featuring local businesses
  • An overview of products and tools for each segment
  • A chance to see what Utah companies are succeeding in social media and to network with other business professionals
  • Fundamentals of lighting, camera work, microphone selection and editing techniques
